高校の頃この曲を初めて聴いてから15年近く経ち、ずっと愛唱歌としてなんとなく口ずさんできたが、今になってこれは反戦歌なのだと気付いた。

爆撃する側の視点、攻撃される側の視点、そして第三者的な視点が織り交ぜられ、かなり深みがある内容となっている。

攻撃する側の人間の、一人の個人としては「やりたくて攻撃しているわけじゃないんだ」という気持ちが表現され、空から地上をさまよう少年に問いかけるような「Are you all alone? Is anybody home?」の一節で思わず涙してしまった。

さきの東日本の震災にも一部当てはめようと思えば当てはめられるので、そういう読み方をするのも一興かもしれない。
