ニュージーランドのオークランドで生まれる。父親は土木技師のヴィック・オコナー、母親はオークランド生まれの詩人ソーニャ・イェリッチ。母方を通じて祖父母はダルマチア出身のユーゴスラビア系。主にオークランド郊外のデヴォンポートで育ち、ベルモントにある学校に通う。12歳の時に学校のタレントショーで歌唱する模様を写したビデオを観たA&Rのスコット・マクラクランによって見いだされ、13歳でユニバーサルミュージックと契約。ギターを使用して13歳あるいは14歳で歌を書き始めたという。（Wikipediaより）

ラナ・デル・レイを彷彿とさせる女性歌手で、この曲はラナ・デル・レイのデビュー・アルバムに未収録だった一曲という噂もたったそうです。

で、この歌詞ですが、華やかなセレブの世界を夢見るティーンエイジャーに対して、「そんな非現実な夢物語に憧れるのはやめて、私が本物の夢を見させてあげる」といった感じの歌だと思います。
