ECHOSMITH / エコスミス

カリフォルニアを拠点とする4人組バンド、エコスミス。長男ジェイミー（20歳・ギター）、長女シドニー（16歳・ヴォーカル／キーボード）、二男ノア（17歳・ヴォーカル／ベース）、三男グレアム（14歳・ドラムス）は、既にバンドとして数年間活動を行っており、兄妹で曲作りや演奏の腕前を磨いてきた。音楽一家に生まれた彼らは、楽器の演奏をしながら、またコールドプレイやスミス、U2、ジョイ・ディヴィジョンにフリートウッド・マックまで、実にさまざまなバンドの音楽を聴きながら育ち、4年ほど前からバンドとして活動するようになる。

エコスミスがどんなバンドか、またどんなサウンドなのか――彼らのアルバムに収録されている1曲「Come Together」がそれをよく表しているかもしれない。その曲についてジェイミーはこう語っている。
「『Come Together』はタイトルが全てを表していると思う。この曲は、ある一定の人たち――特に若い人たち――が、下に見られたりした時に一緒に団結しようと歌っているんだ。若くたって俺達には出来ることがあるし、重要な存在であるし、物事を変えることだって出来るんだってね」
